ALEXANDRIA, VA — On February 20th, South Carolina State Senator Darrell Jackson introduced GB 508 in the South Carolina Senate. GB 508, as introduced, effectively prevents schools residing in South Carolina that practice discrimination on the basis of race, color or national origin from receiving state funded scholarships.

Most affected by this bill will be the fundamentalist, private Bob Jones University (BJU), which currently prohibits students from dating interracially and bans interracially married couples from attending the school as a couple.

Last fall, The Multiracial Activist inquired about the school’s ban on interracial dating and received a very disturbing letter from school spokesman, Jonathan Pait, outlining the reasons for the ban. Following that letter, James Landrith, Editor & Publisher of The Multiracial Activist applied for admission to BJU and was informed that due to his interracial marriage he could attend, but his wife could not, and vice versa.

As a result of these communications from BJU, hearings are being scheduled for March to discuss GB 508, where Landrith will testify regarding the school’s ban on interracial dating and marriages.

Of course, as a Libertarian I oppose ALL government scholarships to ALL private schools. For that matter, I oppose all government funding of higher education, regardless of the school policies.

Nevertheless, I’m glad to hear about GB 508.

    Thanks for your email,

have to say about *that* one!)

    Dear Mr. Landrith,

I grieves me to read from you’re website. As Christians we need to not attack one another. There are many areas of liberty where we all may differ. Everyone’s Christian walk will look different. To share your beliefs especially in areas of Christian liberty must be done in a spirit of love and not condemnation. Love is patient, kind, …never rude. May God grant you peace as you seek His grace to walk humbly with thy God (Micah 6:8)

    1. Editor’s Note: You’re kidding right? You must be referring to BJU’s “spirit of love and not condemnation” when they called Catholicism and Mormonism a “cult.” Let’s not get into their attempts to tie interracial marriage to “one world government” and the anti-Christ. Okay? Do your homework before you email me please. You are an apologist. Just admit it.
