The Emerging Mixed Race Community

I received the following announcement from Carmen Van Kerckhove of EurasianNation:

Please come to a discussion panel entitled “The Emerging Mixed Race Community” on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 in New York City. The event is part of a discussion series called “Fusion: Ethnicity and Identity in a Changing Society.”

***Please RSVP at rsvp@fusionseries.com***

The past five years have seen an unprecedented level of community-building among racially mixed individuals. A diverse panel of academics, community leaders and student activists will discuss what is driving this growing sense of unity, and what the future holds for this group of people that is bound not by a common culture, but by common experiences. The Columbia Hapa Club will co-sponsor this event.

“The Emerging Mixed Race Community” will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2004, from 7:30pm-9:30pm in the Satow Room at Columbia University’s Lerner Hall, 2920 Broadway at the corner of W. 114th St. General admission is $5; free for students with ID.

***Please RSVP at rsvp@fusionseries.com***

Directions: Take the 1 or 9 subway line to 116th Street. Lerner Hall is on 115th and Broadway inside the Columbia campus. It is the large all-glass student center. After being signed in in the lobby, guests should take the elevator up to the 5th floor. The Jed Satow Room will be on your right as you exit the elevator.

The Fusion Series focuses on issues that are relevant to mixed adults, mixed families, transracial adoptees, and interracial/cultural/faith couples. It provides an open and honest forum in which different communities can come together for meaningful dialogue and coalition building. To read transcripts, view photos, and download fact sheets from our previous events, please visit our Web site at www.fusionseries.com.

The series is spearheaded by the documentary film Anomaly, the online magazine EurasianNation.com, and the community organization Swirl, Inc., which all focus on giving voice to, and bringing together multiethnic and multicultural communities.
