National Interracial Marriage Study

For those interested in participating, I’ve received the following research announcement:

Subject: National Interracial Marriage Study

Researcher: Dr. Richard Lewis, Jr., Associate Professor, University of Texas at San Antonio, Department of Sociology, rlewis@utsa.edu, 210-458-4020

This research effort represents the second phase of a social scientific survey of individuals married interracially that I conducted in 1993-1994. Five academic articles were published for the initial research. This current data collection process is an extension of the research and it attempts to further improve the social science literature with respect to interracial marriages and family issues. As a sociologist who is interracially married, I feel that the social science literature must provide a more realistic and scientific view of interracial marriages. This research effort will continue efforts to broaden the scientific foundation.

The survey is geared to obtaining your opinions and attitudes about selected issues with respect to interracial dating and marriage. No one outside of the my three person research staff will ever see your answers. Special safeguards have been set up to ensure that your replies will be kept strictly CONFIDENTIAL.

A preliminary report will be written in September 2004. Copies will be provided to participants who request it when they return their questionnaires. Thank you for considering participating in this important social scientific study.

To participate, you should e-mail your mailing address to me. Your packet will be mailed to you.

If you have further questions or inquiries, please do not hesitate to call me at 210-458-4020.
