Comment in question Re: Love in Black and White Written by KEVIN10134 , on 04-01-2001 06:35 Also let me say that I disagree that black women have loved black men unconditionally. No one loves unconditionally. I attended a historically African American college and there I was a Black College Republican, a top Honor graduate and from a very respectable, upper middle class, educated Christian family. No of that mattered to the Black women there. I chose not to own a car, I dress conservatively and am not afrocentric. But I am a successful, hardworking, non violent, well educated and value laden man. Why was it that women would openly tell guys like me that we weren't acceptable for dating. My african friends told me they had the same problems as well as the kids who didn't fit the player stereotype. That to me doesn't sound like unconditional. We weren't chasing white girls either, but over a period of 4 years of college without a date, 2 years of graduate school with no dates, 4 years of building a career without a girlfriend or even dates, guys like me were getting older, lonely and ready to marry, start a home and raise a family. I was able to marry one friend to my little sister, but I have just so many sisters. The rest of us guys(5) in all, found people who will love us UNCONDITIONALLY. Asian, white, African and European women. We were able to discover that we were not undesirable or untouchable as we were told by the black women in the past, but that we are worthy of love, even if we were smooth, dressing black, lsitening to black miusic, dancing, driving fancy cars. They like us for working to build successful careers, keeping ourselves fit, enjoying a divesrity of activities and being open minded.
