Our purpose in asking the leaders in the multiracial/ethnic community to convene for this informal, yet vital, discussion is to consider how the media, especially, the televised media, has portrayed us. And, understanding what things we can do to ensure our places in history. These blatant omissions of our works, successes, contributions and sacrifices are at best journalistic/investigative “sloppiness” and at worst, a deliberate mischaracterization of what our community has accomplished in our nations on-going debate on the question of race and racism.
And, by addressing these issues we might, surprisingly, find some solutions, ways, that will help our allies continue to better serve us and possibly alert those who have no compunction in ignoring us they have been forewarn about these concerns. That this would be foolhardy to continue reporting on this national discussion on “race” and omitting our community. And, that we are easily found via web sites such as “The Multiracial Activist” and its various rich assortment of interracial/multiracial/multiethnic links.
More announcements will follow so that all individual leaders/group directors and organization members affected adversely by the media can prepare to attend and share in this very important discussion.
