Subject: Letter to the Editor – Birth Certificates
I am a white mother of a bi-racial son. He’s 5 months old. Because I didn’t have the father’s information, they put on his birth certificate “white male”. I want his birth certificate to encompass all of who he is whether his father is here or not. Do you know of any way I can get this changed?

Editor: My only suggestion would be to contact your state bureau of vital statistics. You will have to be persistent as you get passed off from department to department. Don’t take no for an answer and keep moving up the chain until you get the answer you want. Good luck.
