The Washington Post
by Howard Kurtz
Washington, D.C.: Any comment on the lack of play given to the outrage amongst African-Americans regarding the failure of Strom Thurmond’s illegitimate daughter to “come out” years ago, in time to confirm how outrageously hypocritical the former Senator was? She can be considered a traitor to her race for allowing him to perpetrate a fraud all those years, and I know I am not the only one feeling betrayed.
Howard Kurtz: I’ve read a couple of stories on that subject in just the last couple of days, but I think it’s ripe for more reporting. One thing that happened is that the whole Thurmond saga was broken by The Post’s Marilyn Thompson on the Sunday that news of Saddam’s capture became public, and got somewhat overshadowed by that story. But it’s an important tale not just for African-Americans but for the Thurmond family members who protected the secret.
