One Drop Rule: Tiger as Asian Pacific American
Is it just me? Was I seeing things? Or did an Asian Pacific American really win the Masters golf tournament last weekend?
I know it was an APA. The winner’s mother, Tida, an immigrant from Thailand, greeted him with a hug and a kiss at the finish.
Of course, a real APA would have his mother greet him at the completion of a tremendous feat. Didn’t your mom kiss you after the violin competition?
But this was the Masters golf championship! Who else but an APA would kiss his mother on the 19th hole? Would Jack Nicklaus? Arnold Palmer? Phil Mickelson? (Oh yeah, it wouldn’t happen with Mickelson. He hasn’t won a major yet).
Ironically, the author of this column was fanatically against Proposition 54.
