{"id":4961,"date":"2004-07-30T11:49:47","date_gmt":"2004-07-30T11:49:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/multiracial.com\/?p=4961"},"modified":"2017-02-07T05:43:28","modified_gmt":"2017-02-07T05:43:28","slug":"stop-proving-me-right","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/multiracial.com\/index.php\/2004\/07\/30\/stop-proving-me-right\/","title":{"rendered":"Stop Proving Me Right"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lynnette Clemetson of the New York Times on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2004\/07\/30\/politics\/30census.html\">Homeland Security Given Data on Arab-Americans<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Census Bureau has provided specially tabulated population statistics on Arab-Americans to the Department of Homeland Security, including detailed information on how many people of Arab backgrounds live in certain ZIP codes.<\/p>\n<p>The assistance is legal, but civil liberties groups and Arab-American advocacy organizations say it is a dangerous breach of public trust and liken it to the Census Bureau&#8217;s compilation of similar information about Japanese-Americans during World War II.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Folks, my opposition to use of &#8220;racial&#8221; data in just such a manner as this was one of the main reasons I stated in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.multiracial.com\/abolitionist\/word\/landrith3.html\">my support<\/a> of the Racial Privacy Initiative. But then, according to &#8220;left&#8221; oriented supporters of &#8220;racial&#8221; classifications, I&#8217;m just a tool of the Illuminati and &#8220;right wingers.&#8221; Its funny that they didn&#8217;t call me that while I simultaneously <a href=\"http:\/\/www.multiracial.com\/abolitionist\/word\/landrith6.html\">opposed &#8220;racial&#8221; profiling<\/a>.
