{"id":5384,"date":"2004-08-11T15:04:13","date_gmt":"2004-08-11T15:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/multiracial.com\/?p=5384"},"modified":"2021-06-10T03:14:33","modified_gmt":"2021-06-10T03:14:33","slug":"link-between-race-cancer-gene-possible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/multiracial.com\/index.php\/2004\/08\/11\/link-between-race-cancer-gene-possible\/","title":{"rendered":"Link between race, cancer gene possible"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/content\/health\/0804\/09cancer.html\">Link between race, cancer gene possible<\/a><br \/>\nBy VIRGINIA ANDERSON<br \/>\nThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Breast cancer tumors in African-American women are more aggressive than tumors in white women, and new evidence suggests that could be due to racial differences in a key cancer gene, according to a study published today in the journal Cancer.<\/p>\n<p>The study, conducted at Yale University School of Medicine, possibly moves forward previous studies that have examined why African-American women die of breast cancer at a rate one-third higher than white women.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Race&#8221; is generally used as a substitute for &#8220;class.&#8221;  The &#8220;poor and the black&#8221; is a common political phrase based on the assumption that all &#8220;blacks&#8221; are poor.
