Powell&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:powell@danenet.wicip.org\">powell@danenet.wicip.org<\/a><br>Subject: College criticized for NOT accepting \u201cone drop\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sunspot.net\/bal-md.olesker03sep03.story\">This reporter thinks that Loyola College<\/a>&nbsp;was \u201cstupid\u201d for not considering a \u201cvery light-skinned\u201d job applicant \u201cblack,\u201d but the stupidity was is in the entire \u201cracial\u201d classification system. Olesker dutifully cites the \u201cone drop\u201d myth while politely leaving the \u201cblack\u201d ancestry of Hispanics and Arabs out of it. He ignores the fact that calling this person \u201cblack\u201d means that there is no logical definition of \u201cblack\u201d or \u201cAfrican American\u201d \u2013 unless those terms refer to someone who\u2019s not good enough to be something else!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The supporters of Affirmative Action like to claim that it is necessary to make up for slavery. Denys Blell, the son of a Lebanese father and Africa mother, immigrated to the U.S. at age 21. He is not only \u201cwhite\u201d enough to be accepted as such by other \u201cwhites,\u201d he is not even related to any descendants of American slaves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Does Olesker ever think about the definition of \u201cwhite\u201d? I doubt it. Blell could easily identify as \u201cwhite\u201d without finding his identity challenged at every turn. Calling himself \u201cblack\u201d means that he\u2019s frequently challenged \u2013 just as he would be if he claimed to be Japanese. If Blell came from Latin America, would his dreaded \u201cblack\u201d ancestry become null and void?
