enclosed Decision Memorandum (issued on September 2, 1999)<\/a>, the Census Bureau has decided to meet the needs for redistricting by providing the 63 categories of race in combination with Hispanic\/Latino categories tabulated for both total population and people 18 years of age and over. The Census Bureau is in the process of informing the states of this decision.<\/p>\n We look forward to continuing to work with the Department of Justice to provide the states with important data needed to comply with the Voting Rights Act.<\/p>\n
