WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Multiracial Activist, along with several religious and civil liberties groups, has endorsed a brief report authored by Maria S. Constantinescu on religious asylum seekers and the REAL ID Act’s impact on same.

An excerpt: ” Under current law, hundreds of religious persecution cases are pending before the federal courts of appeals. A disturbing number of these cases did not receive a meaningful review by the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA). The BIA is an administrative agency within the Department of Justice which handles appeals from Immigration Judges’ decisions. Its purpose, in effect, is to provide guidance to Immigration Judges by interpreting the immigration laws. The cases that come before the BIA are primarily from individuals seeking relief from orders of removal and deportation entered by Immigration Judges.”
