For the most part, Attorney General John Ashcroft has managed to keep himself out of the headlines since the war with Iraq came and went, but that doesn’t mean he’s out of the minds of Americans concerned about civil liberties.
Nearly a hundred local governments around the nation have passed resolutions in recent weeks that express misgivings about provisions of the USA Patriot Act, the 340-page anti-terrorist measure hurriedly passed by Congress in October 2001.
