Embarking on the project, the author says he recognized that his story could be seen as controversial by some.
“There’s two aspects of it that could be seen that way,” he says. “One is the inter-racial aspect. For some people it brings out anger. The other is the idea of these young women leaving their countries (to pursue relationships). There are some people who think these women are being exploited because of their poverty. There are people who are very offended by this idea.”
