Strom Thurmond’s biracial daughter said Tuesday she confronted her father about his segregationist politics only once — when she was a college student at all-black S.C. State College and he was governor.
“He said, ‘Well, that’s the way things have always been,’• ” Essie Mae Washington-Williams told Dan Rather during an interview for the CBS news program “60 Minutes II,” scheduled to air at 8 tonight.
