To Susan Graham, James Landrith Jr. and Charles Michael Byrd:

All of you feel that racial classifications should be completely erased because they cause racial division.

Racial tension comes from what people feel in their hearts and minds. Getting ridding of categories is not going to bring an end to that. Plus I see nothing wrong with trying to find out how diverse a school or workplace is.

I do feel that the multiracial category added to the census, college applications, job applications and anywhere else that the forms ask for a person’s racial identity.

Now I would like to know how a school or job place is supposed to know just how diverse it has become without people identifying their race.

If I marry a woman in my racial group and have a child, I would like to know how diverse the school is and how many children of my child’s race is attending the school.

Again I feel that a multiracial category should be added on all forms.

This is the direction I feel that the movement should take.

P.S. Hi, James! It’s me again!
