Dear Letters to the Editor:

Re: “The Black Gender Gap”, by Ellis Cose – March 3, 2003.

The plight for many of America’s “black” men sets off bells, and although this is unfortunate, I hope the article will inspire people to marry people.

Cose struck a balance in his piece, which was lively and educational! Interracial couplings among “black” and “multiracial” women and “white” men are on the rise for a host of reasons: Mostly for natural reasons; and because some, in the pool of “black” men, that are available, as Cose pointed out, just aren’t up to par. Educationally, and otherwise for many “black” women, today. In defense of interracial dating and marriage, I read in a dated article, in an Ebony interview from the 1960’s, where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., said, (when asked about his thoughts on interracial marriages), “Races don’t marry, people do.”

Sincerely,
